Mahua Harvesting Nets
Building strong relationships with tribal communities in India has taken us nearly three years, and we are proud of the progress we’ve made together.
As part of our efforts, we’ve introduced the use of harvesting nets, which have significantly improved productivity. The nets increase efficiency by four times compared to traditional methods, while also enhancing the quality of Mahua, reducing waste, and better protecting the local environment.
In 2023 alone, over 6,000 nets have been introduced, and training programs have been launched to teach local communities how to use this simple yet effective tool.
All our Mahua products are sustainably sourced from these tribal communities, and with every purchase, money is reinvested to improve their livelihoods and support their growth.
Environmental impact
Intentional forest fires that were previously required to clear the ground pre-harvest are no longer needed.
Local flora and fauna are protected and unnecessary carbon emissions are eliminated.
Flower quality is preserved and as a result, more flowers can be collected for consumption rather than left to rot.
Social impact
As a result of improved flower quality by using nets, the product can demand a higher selling price – increasing income and therefore quality of life.
We pay our producers double the standard market price for the Madhuka that they harvest for us.
Use of nets cut harvesting time to 25%.
This enables farmers to take on other jobs and/or have a better work-life balance.
